Research

Our research is directed at the investigation of motivational and volitional processes in sports. The concepts we use to shed light on these processes are borrowed from different disciplines in psychology. Among these concepts are implicit motives, intrinsic motivation, self-control, risk behaviour, social support, implicit social cognition, and functional substance (ab)use behavior. Additionally, we are interested in the brain processes that are associated with motivation and volition in the athletic setting. In our experimental and correlational studies in the sports and exercise context we use a broad set of methods and techniques.
