Sport Psychology: Annual Conference in Bern

At the 49th. annual congress of the German Society for Sport Psychology (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Sportpsychologie, asp) in Bern, members of the chair of Sport Psychology presented current research of the team.

  • Julia Schüler acted as tutor at the young academics workshop, which took place prior to the conference (see here). In this context she supervised manuscripts, and presentations about motivation- and volition-related topics in sport psychology and discussed career strategies with young scientists.
  •  As editor in chief of the German Journal of Sport Psychology (Zeitschrift für Sportpsychologie), Julia Schüler hosted a „meet the editors“ symposium where the new editorial board of the journal presented and discussed their ideas with conference attendees.
  • Together with Mirko Wegner from the University of Bern, Julia Schüler hosted a symposium on „Motivational and volitional determinants of effective self-regulation in sport and exercise“. As part of this symposium, Zsuzsanna Zimanyi presented her and Julia Schüler’s research on the role of social support on motivation in stressful situations (Title of the talk: „The effects of social support on well-being in stressful situations – Do implicit motives act as moderators?“). Wanja Wolff  presented research conducted by Julia Schüler, Kathrin Benz, Louis Solal-Giboin (Team Markus Gruber) and him on brain activity during fatiguing sports performance (Title of the talk: „Prefrontal brain activity during a static muscular endurance task“).
  • Together with Christoph Englert from the University of Bern, Wanja Wolff hosted a symposium on „Self-control in sport and exercise“. Englert presented his and Wanja Wolff’s ideas on the current state and future challenges of self-control research (Title of the talk: „Lapses in self-control: A consequence of depleted self-control strength or the result of attentional and motivational shifts?“).
