Posture Control Lab (PCL)

Tilt Platform

The heart of the Lab is a tilt platform that is able to follow predefined stimulus sequences. These tilts are used to perturb balance of a subject standing on the device. Built in sway rods and a force sensor allow to measure body sway and center of pressure shifts in one plane. All systems are connected with a real-time target PC that allows synchronous control and recording from all lab systems.

Galvanic vestibular stimulation

A custom built constant current stimulator is used to perturb the vestibular sensory input, where the stimulus current induces a proportional erroneous roll signal.

Virtual Reality System

We use state of the art Virtual Reality head mounted displays to manipulate the visual contribution to standing balance.
