Physical Inactivity - Which exercise helps best?

A sedentary lifestyle with very little physical activity is one of the major risk factors for non-communicable diseases and mortality. In close collaboration with the European Space agency (ESA) and the German Space Agency (DLR), we study the effects of physical inactivity as well as training countermeasures for the detrimental effects of inactivity on the human body. One of the countermeasures we recently tested on behalf of ESA in a 60-day bed rest study at DLR Cologne is an intensive jump training, which prove to be very effective in maintaining muscle, bone and cardiovascular function.
